I’ve switched off my G4 Powerbook for the first time in about 6 months to pull the battery and see if I’m eligible for a new one under the Apple battery recall program. I was rather hoping I was, because battery life on the laptop is now down to about 45 min. A shiny new battery would be very welcome.
Alas it is not to be, I have one of the nonexplodey battery types. Having just seen the price of a replacement battery for this machine I fear I shall be living with an ageing battery for quite a long while to come.
I had to ask for a new one for our MacBook Pro. For the second time in two days the battery went from 95% charged to 0% charged in the blink of an eye. Luckily I had the right serial number etc for the non-exploding batteries that Apple are replacing free of charge.
I’ve been lucky in that I’ve not had any real problems with this battery. No overheating or rapid discharge, I’m just seeing the decline of a three year old, well abused lithium pack.
My desires for a new Macbook are tempered at the moment by a rapidly approaching end of contract. If that is renewed then a new machine is going to be top of the new toy list.
