Eclipse 2026

I’d hope to watch the eclipse from an outdoor balcony looking west over London, but the balcony hadn’t been unlocked. Instead we set up in an air-conditioned lecture theatre with a nice picture window facing west.

There were several students already in the room and they were interested to observer the eclispe, and had been trying with their phones. I set up the Dwarf3 telescope and connected to it with an iPad so we had a large screen to watch the eclipse progress.

The sun, just before the start of the eclipse

I set the telescope to tract the sun and take an image every 30 seconds in timelapse mode.

First contact

The students were excited to watch the moon’s shadow cover the sun and others came and went as the eclipse progressed.

Maximum Eclipse

We watched and recorded until 7:30pm then packed away and headed off for dinner.
